Before joining Cameron: A LEAD Public School, I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ESL and English in Ridgewood, Queens, NY. Then I spent a year teaching English and leading the 8th grade team at a charter school in Oakland, CA. I hve a Masters degree in TESOL linguistics from Long Island University, Brooklyn.
In Ridgewood, I worked with students from over 20 different countries, building a classroom and culture that reflected these varied backgrounds. While in Oakland, I pushed my students to new levels of achievement and prepared them for the journey to college. In both environments, I worked hand in hand with students and parents to raise expectations, set lofty goals, and instill a sense of urgency and hard work around school and learning.
I believe that education is more than just reading, writing and arithmetic. Character allows us to truly use what we learn.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing and cooking with my wife Kathleen.
